Doubrava lies between Orlová and Karviná. The municipality's name is documented in a charter issued by Pope Gregory IX in 1229.

The pseudo-Romanesque St Hedwig's Church, designed by Bedřich Fulda, was consecrated on 15 October 1898. Architect Čeněk Volný built the Hus congregation building in 1928, and it has been a cultural monument since 2001. The municipality owns the Baroque château, which dates from the second half of the 18th century, and is revitalising it with EU support. Opened in 1903, the National House is the municipality's cultural centre, with a restaurant and a hall available for hire.
